The memorandum of understanding was signed by state transport commissioner and secretary Niehu Thor and representatives of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Thumby Aviation Pvt Ltd.
Thor said the services would begin soon and the two-year agreement might be extended later.
He said Nagaland would fully comply with the regulatory stipulation standard notified by the Assam Rifles and Dimapur would be the base station. Two 13-seater choppers, BEL-412, will be provided, one for regular service and the other for standby and emergency services.
A Nagaland civil aviation board will be set up to manage airlines and helicopter services. Thor also said that a civil aviation academy might be established in the near future through higher education and youth resources and sports departments.
The government also plans to build small air strips in some places of the state, he added.
