Naga musician, friend assaulted, robbed

Bangalore, Aug 22 : A musician and an MBA student at Jain University (JU), both from Northeastern India, were assaulted and robbed by two unidentified men in Banaswadi in the early hours of Wednesday.

The suspects got enraged when the musician slapped one of them in the face. They hit him on the head with an iron rod before snatching his scooter.

Police have detained a man from Richards Park, Frazer Town, but refused to disclose his identity. They said the two-wheeler had also been recovered. Keneizao, 27, a musician from Nagaland, had invited his friends to a party at his house at R S Palya. Lhichuii, 23, an MBA student at JU, was also invited.

The party finished around 2.30 am. Keneizao and Lhichuii, both drunk, then headed for Brigade Road to refuel their scooter. They were coming back after refuelling the two-wheeler when the incident occurred, police sources explained.

The miscreants had obstructed their path on the pretext of asking for an address. Keneizao told the police in his statement that once he stopped the scooter, one of the suspects got down and asked him to part with the money. When he tried to resist the attempts, the suspect checked his pockets. An argument ensued and Keneizao slapped the man twice and asked the suspects to go away.

In retaliation, the suspect took out an iron rod and hit Keneizao on the back of his head. Lhichuii then dragged the suspect out and they both ran away, abandoning the scooter, Keneizao added in his statement.

Lhichuii then alerted the police and by the time police rushed to the spot, the two sought the help of a security guard at a nearby petrol bunk and took him to the spot.

The suspects, however, had taken away the scooter by then. Police also reached the spot and took Keneizao to Columbia Asia Hospital where he is being treated at present. According to police sources, he suffered mild injuries and was stable.

Police are interrogating the detained man to ascertain if others were involved in the crime.
