If any elector does not have his/her photo in the E-Roll he/she shall have to produce any of the alternative photo documents mentioned in the order issued on February 7 for establishing their identity.
Since Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) have not been issued in Nagaland, the ECI order has made Photo Voter Slips mandatory. Till date, 97.31 per cent voters have their photos in E-Rolls, leaving out a miniscule percentage of voters without photos.
Keeping in view the directives of the ECI, the State Chief Electoral Officer said it has earlier directed the DCs and District Election Officers to take necessary steps to prevent illegal moves such as voting for entire family by the head of the family or any other member.
The CEO’s office had stated that apart from contravening the principles of one person one vote enshrined in the Constitution of India, such a practice is a criminal offence under Section 17ID and 17IF of the Indian Penal Code.
The district authorities have been asked to ensure strict compliance of the EC order.
