Nagaland Home Minister resigns

DIMAPUR, Feb 20 – Following his detainment and recovery of cash and weapons in his vehicle on Monday, Home Minister Imkong L Imchen has resigned from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect.

In a letter forwarded to the Chief Minister, Imchen said he was tendering his resignation owning moral responsibility even though he has committed ‘no wrong’.

The resignation letter addressed to the CM read: “There was an unfortunate incident today in Wokha, where the Assam rifles Flying Squad has intercepted my motorcade while coming from Kohima, consequent upon which they have seized money amounting to Rs 1.10 crore, which was received from NPF central office for NPF party election purposes.

Besides, they have also recovered some arms and ammunition which I was totally unaware of. Under the given circumstances, I felt it imperative to tender my resignation from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect, owning moral responsibility while holding public office, even though I have committed no wrong over the incident under the law.”
