Steps taken to check illegal fund flow in Nagaland elections

To check illegal fund flow in the upcoming assembly election in Nagaland, State Election Department has issued instruction to all concern to deploy State Surveillance Teams (SSTs) in all major and arterial roads from the date of notification of election to look for large quantities of cash, illegal liquors, any suspicious items or arms being carried in the area. The Election department also informed that in case of Expenditure Sensitive Constituencies (ESC), at least one or two SSTs will be deployed in every constituency. Informing this in a release, the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, J. Alam stated, the SSTs will be controlled by the District Election Officer and Superintendent of Police, through the Flying Squad (FS) and the mechanism should be strengthened and intensified in last 72 hours before the poll, particularly in susceptible areas in consultation with Expenditure Observers. The CEO has also directed all the Deputy Commissioners and District Electoral Officers and Additional Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Electoral Officer of Pughoboto (Electoral Diustrict) to form necessary Flying Squads immediately and initiate further necessary action as instructed by the ECI. He also informed, there shall be one more Flying Squad (FS) in each constituency. The Flying Squad with help of Video Surveillance Team (VST) shall video graph all major rallies, public meetings or other major expenses made by political parties after the announcement and election expenses of the candidate from the date of nomination and shall attend to all complaints regarding election expenditure.
