Road to link Naga communities in Myanmar and India

A company from the Naga Self-Administered Zone in Sagaing Region is working with a counterpart in India to build a paved road linking the remote township of Lahe to a Naga village in India’s Punjab State, MP Hsar Mu told Eleven Media.

The new road will boost trade and deepen ties between ethnic Naga communities in both countries, Hsar Mu said.

After it was approved by President Thein Sein, the 240 kilometer road project received a joint bid from two companies, Shwenyaungyan Co. in Myanmar and Kyarpuyan Co. from India, he added.

Construction on the India side is almost complete, but the road still needs to be paved on the Myanmar side, the MP said, adding that once it was completed a proposal to open a border trade camp would be submitted to parliament.

Lahe Township is inaccessible by road during the rainy season, making it difficult for residents to access markets.
