NPF urges Centre to accelerate peace process

DIMAPUR, Oct 11 – While welcoming the initiatives of the Joint Legislators Forum and the Nagaland Assembly, the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) has urged the Government of India to accelerate the Indo-Naga peace process so that a negotiated political settlement is brought about at the earliest.

Adopting a six-point resolution during its first Central Executive Council meeting in Kohima, the NPF welcomed the initiatives of the Joint Legislator Forum and extended appreciation to the members of the Nagaland Assembly as well as the two MPs of the State for meeting the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and the UPA Chairperson and other Central officials and party leaders and appealing for the Indo-Naga political dialogue to be expedited for an early political solution. On its part, the ruling party also urged the Centre to accelerate the peace process for an early negotiated political settlement.

He also informed that the legislators will again be visiting Delhi on October 14 to meet other political leaders and also have a series of discussions with the Union Home Minister.

The NPF reiterated its commitment that it will pave way for any alternative arrangement that may come about from the logical conclusion of the Indo-Naga political negotiation that is honourable and acceptable to the people.

It also asserted that it is committed to support the Forum for Naga Reconciliation in its efforts to foster unity, understanding and oneness under a spirit of reconciliation while urging upon all sections of the people to listen to the cry of the people for unity, peace and reconciliation.

It, moreover, reaffirmed its commitment to protect the territorial integrity of the State and to continue to work towards the realisation of integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas.

The NPF also expressed concern on the fear psychosis and sense of insecurity that had been created in the minds of the people from the NE in different parts of the country compelling them to return home. While appreciating the Centre and concerned State Governments for the measures taken up to overcome the crisis, the party appealed them to continue to make efforts that will win back the confidence of the people of the region by assuring an environment of security, acceptance and belonging.
