Tripathi, who arrived in Kohima yesterday, has already held three meetings. He briefed media persons here this evening after a closed door meeting with political parties at Hotel Japfü. He informed he had an in-house meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer and staff of the State Election department yesterday to review the election preparedness and also the ongoing special summary revision of the electoral rolls.
He also video conferenced with the Election Officersand Deputy Commissioners of the districts to get a detailed report of the progress of the summary revision in the districts. He said he had advised the DCs to prepare the Draft Electoral Rolls within the period started from October 1 and completed by October 31 next. The Draft Electoral rolls would be given to the political parties to verify and, if necessary, revision should be made. The DCs have also been asked to give highest priority to election related work from now on and achieve 100 per cent photo electoral roll coverage in their respective districts.
On his meeting with political parties, Tripathi said he has emphasised on the importance of appointing booth level agents by political parties so as to maintain clean electoral rolls, while also seeking cooperation from them in preparing error-free electoral rolls.
Replying to questions, Tripathi informed that 84 per cent of the Photo Electoral Rolls have been completed in Nagaland and the rest 16 per cent would be completed soon, for which the political parties in today’s meeting have expressed their happiness.
