Constable hacked to death in barrack by colleague

DIMAPUR, Sept 11 – In a shocking incident, a constable attached with Jalukie Police Station was hacked to death by his colleague with a machete at Peren on Saturday.

According to sources, the victim, identified as one Lalkholen Kuki, 40, was slashed on the neck by his colleague Konglai Zeliang (Liangmai), following a heated argument during a card game with other colleagues.

The police personnel were at the Peren HQ to attend a refresher course and were staying together at a barrack. The incident occurred at around 7.25 pm on Saturday, the source said.

The accused, who is reportedly posted at Athibung, surrendered himself. SDPO Peren confirmed the incident but his version differed from other sources.

According to the SDPO, the incident occurred when the victim was watching a card game being played by his colleagues at the barrack, including his elder brother. The accused, who was sleeping in the same barrack, suddenly woke up from his slumber, fetched a dao and without any warning attacked the victim from behind.

The police official also said the accused is known to be mentally unstable (suspected schizophrenic) having a history of suffering from the ailment. Four other police personnel were witness to the incident, he said.
