Official sources said though there is no Meteorological office in Nagaland, barometers in some departments and individual houses in some places of the state were used to scale temperature.
The high altitude peak Mount Saramati at an altitude of 3,840.00 meters above sea level and the second highest peak Mount Japfu at an altitude of 3,015.60 meters from sea level had already been covered by ice, sending cold wave to the nearby areas.
At Pfutsero in the Phek district, the highest altitude town of Nagaland, at an altitude of 2,133 meter, mercury is scaling just around one degree celsius.
The capital town of Kohima witnessed a temperature a little below two degree Celsius, with very little vehicular traffic.
Dimapur town at an altitude of 260 meter was also under grip of severe cold waves since this morning.
Though government offices were declared open, attendance was very thin.
Official sources said there is an urgent need of Meteorological office in Nagaland.
