The campaign, jointly organised by the autonomous body under Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and Zee News Limited. It has an objective of involving village-based youth clubs affiliated with district NYKs to plant over 52 lakh saplings at public places such as schools, religious places, educational institutions, parks etc in a record time of one day.
In Kohima, NYK Zonal Director K I Singh and NYK Kohima District Youth Coordinator (DYC) John Makhabo who supervised the plantation drive yesterday informed that around 141 youth clubs in Kohima district were to participate in the campaign. The DYC said a total of 11,000 saplings of different species like fruit trees, ornamental, medicinal and commercial plants were handed out to various educational institutions, churches and youth clubs of Kohima district.
The NYKS officials informed that the plants would be called 'Sadbhavna Vriksh', and the responsibility of ensuring survival of the plants would be taken by respective Youth Clubs, monitored by NYC volunteers. Moreover, performances at this green campaign would be reviewed by responsible authorities and the best performing district NYK, Zonal Office and Youth Club would be rewarded.
