Naga Hoho blames AJYCP of diluting 'law and order problem'

Dimapur: Reacting to the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad's (AJYCP) blocking of the Assam-Nagaland road at Mariani area, the Naga Hoho (NH) said it was "unfortunate" that the AJYCP was diluting the law and order problem by bringing in the border dispute issue, which is a very sensitive matter for both the Assamese and the Nagas.

The AJYCP blocked the Assam-Nagaland road in reaction to the killing of one Habid Ali near Lakhuti on August 14 by his business accomplice, Soban Ali. The Parishad claims that Ali was murdered by Nagas.

Following the August 14 incident, peace between the two communities further deteriorated when some innocent Naga boys were manhandled by a mob from Assam who damaged some houses and vehicles belonging to Nagas.

While expressing regret over the AJYCP action, the NH lauded the Kyong (Lotha) Hoho, Doyang Citizens' Forum and 13 counterpart organizations from Assam for their efforts towards bringing peace and normalcy in the border area through a joint meeting on the August 14 incident.

Requesting the authorities of both the states to handle the issue with extreme caution, the NH also sincerely appealed to the AJYCP not to distort historical and circumstantial facts and to stop misleading law-enforcing agencies as well as peace-loving citizens of the sisterly states through cheap propaganda in future.

The NH further appealed to the people living in border areas of Nagaland and Assam to inculcate a sense of harmony and peace by promoting a feeling of brotherhood and ensure peaceful coexistence in days to come in the best interest of the two states.

Meanwhile, the Kyong Hoho and Doyang Citizens Forum in a joint meeting with administrative officials from Assam called off the indefinite bandh on Merapani road.
