Tea factory launched in Nagaland

Kohima, July 10 (PTI) The second tea factory in Nagaland has come up at Tizit in Mon district where the small tea growers have been selling the green leaves to nearby tea estates in Assam till date.Chief minister Neiphiu Rio yesterday inaugurated Paramount Tea Industry in the town, an official release said here today.Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister exhorted the factory owners to run successfully the unit because hundreds of small tea growers in the district and neighbouring area would depend on it. He also assured of state government's support to the tea growers.Accepting a memorandum submitted by Tizit Tea Farmers Union, Rio assured the growers to take up their grievances with Tea Board of India.The chief also suggested that instead of the brand name Konyak Tea produced from this factory, it would be more significant if it could be changed to "Angh Tea, From the land of Anghs".More district, inhabited by Konyak Nagas, is known for Anghship (chieftainship) for governance of villages.The factory has been set up at the initiative and partnership of School education minister Nyeiwang Konyak and rural development parliamentary secretary Pangnyu Phom.The first tea factory for production of organic tea was set up in Longsa village under Mokokchung district in 2005.
