Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar today appealed to the legislators to form a stringent laws to protect the women from any kind of atrocities. Addressing the state level seminar on 'Atrocities Against Women' here this morning, Mr Kumar said the gender discrimination is the root cause of all evils against women. He stressed upon the need of gender equality in the society, where the women are treated as mothers, aunts and sisters and live a fearless life with their fundamental rights. The Governor also said to bring a social change in Naga society, the women organisations and women Hohos have a greater role to play in creating awareness, respect and help them to take part in every step with the men in every field. In her key note address, Nagaland State Women Commission (NSWC) chairperson Sano Vamuzo expressed concern over the increasing rate of atrocities against women throughout the country, including Nagaland, and informed that the objective of the todays seminar was to bring together the stakeholders such as the political and social leaders, administrators, police, judiciary, NGOs, media and all related partners to collaborate meaningfully with each other with deliberation from deeper insights to curb this social menace. She also reminded the White Ribbon Campaign taken up by the NSWC last year and appealed to all to join the campaign for the safeguard of the women.
