In a press note issued by Director Health and Family Welfare Dr R Imtimeren Jamir disclosed that two out of five samples collected from Dimapur for analysis at Dibrugarh Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) proved positive for JE.
The director, however, stated that the two patients, one from Siethekie Basa village in Dimapur district and the other from Walford Colony in Dimapur town, have fully recovered from the infection.
Dr Jamir informed that since JE was a viral disease, with no specific treatment the department had advised the public to adopt protective measures like sleeping under mosquito net, avoid stagnation of water in the surroundings to reduce mosquito breeding, construct pig sties away from residential areas etc.
Common symptoms of JE were fever, headache, disorientation, tremors, paralysis and loss of co-ordination.
It further notified that any person having the mentioned symptoms should immediately report to the nearest hospital or Health Centre.
He also said district programme officer for National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP) has taken all preventive measures in the affected areas. The NVBDCP carries out control and preventive measures annually.
