Jacob takes over as CFMG Chairman of Naga truce

Kohima, Apr 7: Major General (Retired) Eppen Jacob Kochekkan has taken over the charge of the Cease Fire Monitoring Groups (CFMG) for the NSCN-IM and NSCN (K) in Nagaland.

Official sources here today said Maj Gen (Retd) Jacob--General Officer in Command (GOC) of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka area--has succeeded to Lt Gen Mandhata Singh, whose term ended in November last year. The CFMG was set up by the Union Government in 1997 to monitor implementation of the Cease Fire Ground Rules (CFGR) after the Cease Fire Agreement signed between the Center and the NSCN-IM. Under the instruction of the Union Government, the NSCN-IM also set up the Cease Fire Monitoring Cell (CFMC) to coordinate with the CFMG and to have talks over the implementation, violation and other related matters in cooperation with the state government officials and other Para-military forces of Nagaland.

The NSCN (K) also later signed a Cease Fire Agreement in 2001 with the Central government and they have set up the Cease Fire Monitoring Board (CFMB) to keep coordination with the CFMG on the implementation of CFGR and the CFMG has become the coordinator between the Union Government and both the NSCN groups, who are engaged under cease fire agreement with the Centre.
