Nagaland to implement 'communitisation' in urban areas

Kohima, Mar 27 : After successful implementation of Communitisation Act by various Government departments in rural areas, the Nagaland government is all set to implement the same in urban settlements by passing the Nagaland Municipalities Community Participation Bill, 2011.

The Nagaland Municipalities Community Participation Bill, which was introduced on the Floor of the House on Thursday last and passed yesterday by voice votes in the budget session of the Nagaland Assembly.

It will enable the government to introduce the concept of communitisation of public utilities and services in Municipal and Town councils pertaining to electricity, primary education, health care, water supply, tourism and sanitation, where the communities would monitor the billing of power supply, attendance of the teachers and students in schools and others. by a constituted monitoring committee of the locality.

The communitisation programme has been successful in rural areas of Nagaland with Village Education Committee to monitor schools, and the Village Electricity Committee will monitor the households the consumption of power and payment of bills with a single meter for the entire village.
