NMA slams Nagaland govt on NRHM implementation

Kohima, Feb 7 : The Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) has criticised the Nagaland government, particularly the Health and Family Welfare Department, for allegedly not ensuring proper implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

In a statement here today, NMA president Abei-u Meru said the official report of the state government stated that out of total 33 Primary Health Centers (PHC) in Nagaland, 21 are in the Phek district.

''This is a serious violation of the existing norms that was pointed out to a central team, which visited the state recently,'' Mr Meru added.

Questioning the government on the matter, the NMA demanded that the PHCs should be relocated as per the population criteria and if needed, more PHCs could be established as per the target. She also asserted that the required number of PHCs should be set up in all the eleven districts of Nagaland with adequate number of doctors strictly as per guidelines for better service to rural areas. She further suggested incentives such as proper housing and good vehicles for the doctors posted at rural PHCs and priority options for further specialisation.

The NMA slammed the State Health and Family Welfare Department which allegedly failed to properly implement the NRHM in the state, saying there was an inordinate delay in payment under RCH in the Jana Shathya Yojana programme which was against the stipulated guidelines. The NMA president also urged the Central Team to stop the practice of backlog reportedly being carried out in many districts, which violated the laid rules.
