Nagaland Health Department bans medical ads

KOHIMA, Oct 28 : The Health and Family Welfare Department of the Government of Nagaland has banned all types of advertisements for treatments or medicines for curing diseases. A circular issued by the Department here today informed all concerned that advertisements for treatment and medicines, which purport to correct or cure diseases mentioned in the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, and Rules 1955, are strictly prohibited under Sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the said Act.

The circular asked the media, medical practitioners or Allopathic and others systems and medicine dealers regarding prohibition of “certain advertisements” under the provision of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisement) Act, 1954.

Additional Drugs Controller and Licensing and Controlling Authority RF Lotha directed that advertisements of treatment or medicines that purport to correct or curing diseases mentioned in the schedule are strictly prohibited under the given Sections.

“Whoever contravenes any of the provisions of this Act and the Rules made there, shall be punishable under Section 7 of the said Act,” it said.
