American Tangkhul Nagas aid displaced persons at Tamenglong

TAMENGLONG, Aug 9: The American Tangkhul Nagas are aiding the displaced persons of Zeme Nagas who are taking shelter at Immanuel Public School`s boarding at Khangchuilon village some 5 kms from Tamenglong district HQs here today.

The American Tangkhul Nagas handed relief materials through New Hope Ministry Tamenglong and the same was handed over to the warden and staff of Immanuel Public School`s boarding by founder president of New Hope Ministry, RK Ragaisin and CEO, Tamenglong Autonomous District Council here today in the presence of Dr. Daisok R Panmei, members of American Zeliangrong Nagas and executive director of New Hope Ministry.

In the Immanuel Public School`s boarding as many as 22 children of Zeme Nagas from North Cachar Hills district of Assam are taking shelter after ethnic violence broke out between Zeme Nagas and the Dimasas, during which a number of Zeme Naga villages were burnt down by DHD(J) and innocent people killed. They were also allowed to join the school, and the school authority are providing necessary stationeries free of cost to them.

On visiting the school boarding along with the New Hope Ministry today, the warden said that there was no rice left for tomorrow`s meal. "On hearing of the New Hope Ministry Tamenglong`s visit, we were relieved but if not we will be forced to go to market to take the rice on credit, as we have no money now," said Basil, warden of the boarding.

The New Hope Ministry Tamenglong today advised children to feel free and stay at the boarding. "It is God`s grace that you are all here, God gave you a chance to get education here," said RK Ragaisin.

The relief material included five quintals of rice, 50 kilograms of potatoes, one kilogram dry fish, 30 kilograms of salt, thirty kilograms of dal, one kilogram each of garlic and onion and meat for today`s meal. The Immanuel Public School`s staff and the children expressed their gratitude to the donors and the New Hope Ministry Tamenglong.
