Dimapur police rescues abducted truck driver

DIMAPUR, July 31 : The Dimapur police on Thursday at around 4:00 am rescued one truck driver from the clutches of a criminal gang of kidnappers from the Signal Angami area of Dimapur and nabbed three persons in this connection. The arrested were identified by police as one Akumba Thonger (60 yrs), one Setiba Thonger and one Lipongse Thonger, all residents of Signal Angami. Police said that Akumba Thonger is an ex-policeman while the other two are his sons. The rescued driver was identified as one Shyam Paite (26 yrs), s\o a Moi Paite of Churachandpur, Manipur.
Paite was abducted for ransom on July 23 reportedly by KRA cadres from near the FCI godown towards Firing Range, Dimapur police informed. The abductors demanded Rs 20 lacs from the driver’s employer it was learned.
Further, it was informed that one Tsatrongse and one Tonsuo Chang who are said to be the main accused are absconding. The latter is reported to be the brother in-law of the former.


350 kgs of ganja recovered

Meanwhile in a late report reaching here, around 350 kgs of contraband ganja was recovered from a ‘Mahindra Scorpio’ by police personnel manning the Chumukedima check post on Wednesday evening at around 8:30 pm. Police informed that the said vehicle coming from towards Kohima on being stopped tried to reverse and flee. Unable to do so police said its occupants abandoned the vehicle and escaped into the darkness.
