Kohima | July 18:Music in Nagaland appears to be heading for establishment of a proper industry with more and more aspiring Naga musicians now seriously taking up music on a professional level and launching their own albums with hopes of gaining nothing less than national and international successes.
The number of artistes and musicians shifting their focus to music as a professional career has been overwhelming lately with a number of bands as well as solo artists heading for the studios to record and launch their own brands of music – ranging from pop and ballads to modern fusion with a touch of ethnic Naga tunes. Choral music has been the stronghold of the Nagas and our choirs have gained world-wide recognition with Naga-nized choral arrangements and compositions.
Gospel music and even gospel rock has found much favor among the Naga music lovers and today a galaxy of gospel rockers are hogging the limelight at every concert. However, original pop music is something yet quite rare even quite a few have ventured into without much success.
One such aspiring musician is Oren Muzhui, whose album, ‘Obsession’, was launched today by the popular gospel rock band, ‘Divine Connection’, at Dream CafĂ© today under the aegis of Clef Ensemble.
At the simple launch programme, Oren said the songs in his album ‘Obsession’, are easy, simple and “singable” music and that it took him some six to seven years to compose and another year to record. Describing himself as a ‘balladeer’, he said there are a lot of love messages in his songs. He is hopeful that his songs will find favor with the music lovers and inspire them to seriously take up music as a profession.
