For peace and harmony to return in the district, the Zeme and Dimasa communities realize the need to renew and strengthen their age-old tradition of peaceful coexistence by respecting each others’ indigenous rights and identity, the Baudi said.
The Baudi also urged the government and Dimasa apex authorities to intervene, to provide relief to the displaced persons and for early settlement of the conflict.
“We don’t claim possession of the whole issue and problems overlooking the local bodies, Zeme Council Assam, Zeliangrong Baudi Assam Unit under Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) or ignoring the highest Zeliangrong Baudi Apex authority. However, being part of the family of the whole Zeliangrong people, we play our possible part and responsibility toward resolving the issue in an amicable way,” it stated.
The Baudi explained: “With such lost of properties and precious lives and a direct discrimination of our people rights, our people could not remain silent and keep waiting for others or govt. to come and intervene the situation. Therefore, our youth forces were moved of their own volition to defend and react to the situation. Nevertheless, equal effort for resolving the conflict from both the Dimasas and Zeme apex bodies who are in the same region and location must be put together before furthering the problem”.
