Rio seeks Cong support to resolve Naga issue

KOHIMA, May 21 – Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio has sought the cooperation of the Opposition Congress in resolving the Naga political issue.

Addressing a gathering of party workers and alliance partners during the Nagaland Peoples’ Front (NPF) thanks-giving service following the victory in parliamentary polls and Assembly by-elections, here on Sunday, Rio stated that the Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF)-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government does not have any problem with the Central Government.

Asserting that the DAN Government will try to keep good relations with the Centre, he appealed to the Congress in the State to extend support and cooperation to the DAN Government in resolving the Naga issue. “The Naga issue is above all political party issues, and let us come together and work for finding a solution to the protracted issue”, he said.

Maintaining that the landmark victory of the Nagaland Peoples Front in the just- concluded parliamentary and Assembly by-elections in the State is peoples’ mandate for unity, peace and reconciliation, Rio said, “It is a mandate that supports our peace initiatives and the DAN Government’s political stand.

He also asserted that the DAN Government will work tirelessly to uphold the identity of the Nagas besides emotionally integrating all Naga people.

NPF President, Dr Shrhozelie Liezietsu expressing gratitude to the electorate said that the achievement will be a landmark in the history of Naga people.

DAN coalition partners, Minister for Forest & Excise, M C Konyak from BJP and Minister Agriculture, Dr Chumben Murry from NCP also spoke on the occasion.
