Kyong Hoho reiterates social boycott of 41 AR

Dimapur, Feb 16 : The Kyong Hoho today reiterated that the social boycott of the 41 Assam Rifles which was launched by the citizens of Wokha district after the Tokhu Emong festival 2008 in Wokha was disturbed by AR personnel which led to much hue and cry from the Kyong community.

The second joint meeting convened by the Kyong Hoho with the Wokha Town Council Kyong Eloe Hoho, Kyong Ekhae Ekhung (LSU) WDGBA and colony chairmen, Secretaries and GBs on February 8 and deliberated on the matter pertaining to the earlier Resolutions passed on November 7, 2008 not being able to celebrate the Tokhu Emong Festival ‘08 due to the situation created by the 41 Assam Rifles.

Informing this in a press release, the KH chairman, Yansathung Jami and general secretary, Michael Yanthan stated that the meeting strongly viewed the lackadaisical and indifferent attitude of the Assam Rifles authorities for not heeding to the just demands of the citizens of Wokha whereby the representation submitted to the GOC 3 Corps Rangapahar is even yet to be responded.

The meeting ‘ to continue the public boycott of the 41 Assam Rifles socially and personal visits to their camp in totality till further notice, except the teachers and students attending classes’.

However, the release clarified two resolutions taken on November 2, 2008. It said that the Resolution No 1 which stated that “41 AR battalion presently posted at Wokha Hq should be withdrawn immediately” is meant “for Replacement of the 41 AR from Wokha”.

This is due to the arrogant and irresponsible act during the Tokhu Emong ‘08 celebration which has severely affected the peaceful co-existence between the security forces and the citizens of Wokha which was prevalent earlier, the release stated.

With regard to Resolution No 2 which stated that “Pumping water from the public well (Etsutchuka) by the Army shall not be allowed” is meant only from the Etsutchuka public well but not from the other sources.

This is because, water from the Etsutchuka public well is not sufficient enough for the public consumption, the release stated.
