Dimapur, February 11 : The Naga Students’ Union Bangalore concluded its annual sports meet held on February 6 and 7, 2009. More than 1000 enthusiastic Nagas attended this grand once in every year held event, informed a press note from the students body.

Allen Longkumer (first Chaplain, NCFB) and Alan Shaiza (Retd. Wing Commander, Indian Air Force) were the chief guests for the opening and closing ceremonies respectively. The two, who are also the senior-most Naga citizens in Bangalore, encouraged members to live together in solidarity.

They expressed their appreciation to the enthusiastic participants which indeed impressed them. Moreover, they acknowledged the relentless efforts of the Union leaders in bringing the community together even through sports.

Thirty seven Naga tribes grouped into 8 teams, spearheaded by the sub-units of the Union competed in three disciplines – Basketball and Volleyball for men & women, and Football for men.

The team names are uniquely given after names of birds found in our homeland – Ayiti (led by Ao and Anal Students’ Union), Hornbill (led by Zeliangrong Students’ Union), Khungsen (led by Angami and Laamkang Students’ Union), Oriza (led by Mao and Maram Students’ Union), Ozem (led by Poumai and Rengma Students’ Union), Phizii (led by Tangkhul Students’ Union), Shangkaila (led by Chakhesang and Lotha Students’ Union) and Tragopan (led by Sumi Students’ Union).

The Union President, Aran A Chihui, congratulated the winners and all the participants and gave away the prizes along with the general secretary, Kakugha Wotsa. He noticed a significant level-up standard quality in the entire endeavor.

The event ended with his special ‘thank you’ note for the event’s grand success to the games & sports secretaries, Abel B. and Timothy Wijunamei, and to all the members and well wishers for their supports through participation, prayers and financial supports to the Union.
